Story:I want to Become an IAS................

Name : Amey Mahant
Place : Indore
Story : I want to become an IAS…………

I was studying with acute concentration in my room(A rare scene which you will only catch when my exams are at my doorstep and I can’t afford to open the door as I’m naked),when Chirag(the only fellow on this earth who is always busy despite of the fact that he does nothing)knocked my door(he actually would have knocked down my door, if it didn’t get swung open),with the same urgency with which any person dying out of some health problem will knock the door of a Doctor.
Entering my room with the same I-am-in-an-urgency kind of attitude, he asked his same favorite question (which is obviously my unfavourite),”So raha tha kya??”
Before I could reply, he looked at my table and started laughing loudly and holding his stomach, fell down on my bed. With those yellow teeth peeking out of his brown lips and unshaven cheeks, he asked something I was expecting,”Padh raha tha??” and continued that laugh which turned into a giggle when I was involved.
Finally one of the most stupid jokes of the universe was over and he came to a much needed halt (At least from my perspective).
“Ya, I was studying” I replied.
“Why are you studying now? It’s not your exam time” Chirag asked surprisingly.
“Ya, but……….”
“No if and but” Chirag interrupted me” we are going to have the dinner at Varun’s place. It’s his Birthday man”.
As it was one of my very old and strong habits of forgetting the Birthdays of my friends (this thing applies only to those friends who are Boys), Chirag came to remind me the special occasion.
With every effort of hiding the reality and speaking with confidence I said,”Ya, ya, I know”.
Chirag’s twinkling eyes gave me the answer.
“Now will you make it fast, at least today (I’m one of the slowest of all the friends when it comes to dressing up for any purpose, according to Chirag, though I don’t think so)”Chirag requested.

Within 25 minutes we were on the way to Varun’s house (My recent Girl friend resides very close to Varun’s house. This is the reason why I regularly visit Varun at his place).
As the party was about to start at 8’o clock and Chirag came at my place at 8’o clock, we were an hour late(As always, we reach promptly according to Indian Standard Time) to reach Varun’s house.
Varun…….with his large built and never ending smile gives a look of a joker in a circus which is not paid anymore. One of the cutest friends which I have and absolutely, heaviest of the lot. He is one of those friends whose Birthday can’t be forgetted but I’m trying Guinness Book for this record.
As we passed by the parking space and reaching in front of the main gate, pressed the Bell button, Seizer (Varun’s pet and my enemy. He is a dog who really deserves to be the dog) started barking as if two thiefs well dressed in Suit and Boot, carrying some boxes looking like gifts will rob their entire house and kill everyone including that stupid dog. I’m damn confident that at this point of time Varun’s Mom would be trying to control that devil and she will definitely find an appropriate arrangement for that I-will-eat-you-up monster.
Finally, Varun opened the door and without even thinking about his bad smelling sweat (at least, Birthday boy deserves this concession), I hugged him tightly & wishing him entered his House.
“Thank you Bhai” Varun said.
Shaking my hands with him, I told” See, I remember your Birthday. You know, I was the one who went at Chirag’s place and reminded him of this auspicious day”.
“You could be correct my brother, but let me tell you that Chirag was the first person to wish me in the night itself”. Varun and Chirag burst out laughing.
Seeking some space for myself I went towards Kaku (This is the Marathi word for Aunty. As Varun is also of Marathi community, I call his mother as Kaku) and took her blessings by touching her feet.
“It’s very bad to forget the Birthdays of good friends, Amey” She pulled my legs.
“Kaku, you too??” I pledged for support.
Varun’s father, whom I call Kaka, came into the hall like an angel and took me out from this darkness of forgetting the Varun’s Birthday,” No problems, Son, It happens sometimes”.

I felt quite relaxed and took the glass of water.
We were waiting for Siddharth (shortly, we call him Sidd), who is another member of I-cannot-reach-on-time community (I am the head, though). After waiting for half an hour I called Sidd for more info about his position (sounds like Army).
“Hello Sidd, where are you??” I shouted on phone.
“I am on my way to Varun’s house” Sidd replied.
The people who know Sidd have the surety at the back of their mind that after this answer Sidd will take 10 min. to leave his own house.
“When are you leaving from your place” I asked firmly.
“In 10 min., but I’ll be there in 15 min.” He answered attentively.
This is another answer which is an indication that he will take minimum 30 minutes.
“Okay, okay, please come here up to 10’o clock. We are waiting” I requested him and smashed the receiver on that black phone kept on the corner of the table. The telephone was about to fall due to my force but somehow I managed to keep it on the table.
“What did he say??”, Chirag asked.
“Same excuse, he’ll take half an hour at least”, I replied with an expression of tiredness.
“Oh, no” Chirag reckoned with same expression which comes on his face normally when he is too hungry. (Seeing that special chocolate cake, anyone can become hungry)
Varun-the Birthday boy, has already gulped in three pieces of those Bengali Sweets which were about to be eaten after party starts (Varun is a kind of friend who can’t control his hunger, doesn’t matter whose Birthday it is).
After waiting for 40 minutes, Sidd entered from that beautiful Sandalwood door of Varun’s house as if nothing has happened. Carrying an I-am-on-time kind of expression, he wished, “Hi Guys”.
(Sidd is one of those friends who are confused a lot about everything in their life. He is the one who hates Seizer, the most and due to his habits of coming late and the like, we in our group call him with another name that’s “Dhila”).

“What happened?? Common Guys, I’m only 80 minutes……..I mean 10 minutes late”. Sidd questioned with confidence”.
“Ya Sidd, we are grateful to have you here”. Chirag fumed.
“C’mon Guys, leave it” Varun controlled.
Varun is a leave-it kind of a Guy & doesn’t like friends fighting for small things.
“Let’s cut the cake, Varun”, Kaku called him.
We all went near the round table at the center of the Drawing room which is Varun’s favorite. This was the first time I had my eyes travelling through my favorite Chocolate cake which was garnished with dry fruits and tri colored pastes reading, “ Happy Birthday Varun”.
“Hey Vary, Make it fast” Sidd said.
Varun took the knife and cut the yummy chocolate cake right in between the two words ‘Happy’ and ‘Birthday’ of the top line. His knife pierced into the cake crossing three layers of paste, several layers of chocolate & many layers of that Celebration-specific bread.
“Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday to Dear Varun, Happy Birthday to You.”We sung in a chorus.
Unaware of the beautiful Song, Varun made the pieces of cake and gave it to Kaka and Kaku.
“Take it , Amey” He gave me a small piece.
We all took some pieces & than Kaku took the delicious cake away from us, as she had to complete the preparations of dinner.
“The cake is really nice, Bro” Chirag grinned.
“Ya, ya, after all it’s the Shreemaya Celebrations Chocolate Cake, Man” I said with excitement.
I was telling them as if I’m the Brand Ambassador of the Celebrations bakery.
“That’s right”, Sidd supported.
Kaku brought the plates & passed on to us. We all started taking our dinner & as the basic property of our group is, started talking.

“How are your studies goin on, Amey??” Varun asked.
This is one of those questions which we people ask only when we are sitting with elders.
“Fine”, I replied plainly.
“What about you, Chirag & Sidd??, I asked curiously.
“Okies-type, you can’t poke into more things at a single time, don’t you?” stylish Sidd replied.
“It’s Good, but I need to increase the study hours”, Chirag answered.
Everyone in the hall nodded sensing the situation that it was not the correct answer. Somehow we controlled our Laughter and the discussion carried on.
As we were really hungry; we ate like some mongorins who have not got food since several days. We finished our dinner in couple of minutes, Varun of course finishing the last.
Finishing the dinner we sat down for some fruitful talks.
“Friends”, I initiated” I have taken the decision to take Civil Services Examination”.
“What does that mean??” Sidd asked.
“I want to become an IAS…………..” I replied
There was a stunning silence in the room.
“What?? You will become IAS” Chirag asked shockingly.
Yes, don’t you think it’s a good career??” I asked.
“Hey Guys, our Amey -the Aalsi (this is the name by which my friends call me, I was not supposed to tell that, but this Varun told everyone, I hate this Rascal) is gonna become IAS”. Varun shouted following that famous laughter which I had known since we became friends.
Everyone in the hall burst out laughing.
“Is this the joke of the day, Buddy?” Sidd asked.
“No, no, it’s the joke of the Century, don’t you think so, Guys” Chirag added.

“Hey Guys, just think, what will happen if he will keep sleeping & don’t reach his office on time.” Varun said.
“And when due to his habit of forgetting things he will forget to go to some important place at the destined time” Sidd added to the conversation.
“When, due to his indiscipline, he will not be able to complete a job on-time & get scolded by his seniors” Chirag said.
“Just imagine the organization and management of that city whose Collector is Amey Mahant” Chirag appended his point.
He’s definitely gonna screw things out for that city” Varun said and the power & speed with which they were laughing increased exponentially.
(Every one of them had a quick tour of my bad habits and during their fun-making process, they didn’t notice the point that I was silent). Listening to their initial responses, I spoke,” Friends, I was expecting some sincere support or suggestions from you people. I’m damn serious about this decision.” I told firmly.
“Hello Bro, we are just joking yaar” Chirag apologized.
“See, first of all, Civil Services is a very difficult job. Why don’t you try for any professional courses like MBA? I am taking CAT. You are good at English and Maths. So why don’t you take MBA as your option. You know very well that MBA is the most preferred option nowadays with youngsters like us.” Chirag put his point, as though he has sensed something about me.
“Hey Bro, I would suggest you, to just give a thinking about GATE, which is my career objective. Being Engineers, we can very easily appear & clear GATE, if we work hard with only our stream subjects and also we don’t need to study anything extra for this objective. Why waste our 2-3 years in Civil Services Exam.” Sidd pleaded.
“First of all, we all are sorry for not taking you seriously,” Varun continued,” In my view, you should leave the dream of becoming an IAS because its not easy to clear Prelims of Civil Services, forget about the Mains. And getting the post of IAS is the most difficult of all. Instead, you should try for GRE as I’m trying for that & you will find it easier, at least than Civil Services. As Chirag said, you have a nice command on English and Maths, so you can easily pick up from the basic level & raise yourself to higher levels.” Varun said.

Instead of supporting me, everyone was trying to impose their thoughts on me. But definitely, I was not a guy shy enough to lose my grip over the matter, so I added briskly,” Friends” I said,” I agree with all of you & I’m faithful of you people for suggesting me the other options which you think would be better for me. But don’t you think there is no other career which will give you the comparable amount of power which IAS provides you. IAS i.e. Indian Administrative Services is one of the top posts of the Administration in the Government sector. Let me tell you that whatever policy we have, is first researched by a group of IAS officers and than is implemented by the Government. Indirectly, you get the power to decide the fate of your country.
One of the most important point is we get the opportunity to serve our nation and clean up the system by being a part of system itself. We, the Indians, have just turned our back towards this element of Society. I’m not saying that I’m one of the most dedicated persons in this country & will turn the things around, but at least we can try on our part to save our nation which is being surrounded by dark clouds of Corruption, Poverty, Mismanagement and many more from all sides. What do you say, Sidd??” I asked him sensing that he was not attentive.
(Sidd was busy with his Cell phone and didn’t hear at once).
“Helloooo, Sidd??” I questioned again.
“Ya, ya, you are right.” Sidd bounced back and answered.
“I think that your idea is quite good” Chirag supported.
But, why do you want to do Civil Services Examination for serving the nation, you can do anything else too”. Varun asked aggressively.
“You are right, Bro, but, IAS gives you the right track, sufficient power and commanding position to execute this objective successfully” I replied confidently.
“Hmmm, Ok, That’s correct”. Varun said.
“But hey, Bhai, please, don’t forget us if you become an IAS” Chirag pleaded.
“What rubbish-like things you are talking about, Chirag” I alleged.

So, you are gonna wander in a white Ambassador car with a red light on top & a plate naming Collector in front, don’t you??” Sidd asked enthusiastically.
“Ya, possibly, but…………………….
“Amey……..Amey…………C’mon Amey……….”
“Ya, ya, Chirag”. I returned to consciousness.
“What are you doing man? What were you doing all this time?? Now don’t tell me, that you were busy thinking about your third Girl friend. I have completed this small comic comprising 35 pages and you are still sitting there. You have wasted almost 15 minutes, Stupid. Don’t you want to come with me at Varun’s place??” Chirag ruffled me.
“Yes, yes, Sure, Buddy” I told hastingly.
“Then keep that Book aside, I’m ready. Go quickly and dress up yourself” Chirag ordered.
“Ya wait for some time” I requested.
I went into my room and changed my outfits & came out rushing.
“C’mon Chirag, its Varun’s Birthday and we’ll be late as it is already 8:30” I rushed.
“Now drive fast, but carefully, we don’t want to get more late now” Chirag said.
“Ya, ya, I’ll try my best” I said and we were on the way to Varun’s house, my mind still thinking about the day dream which I had couple of minutes ago, about becoming an IAS one day,”Oh!! What a beautiful dream that was???”

okies.. so u r getting into writing big time...good effort i'd say.
the write-up or rather the story, exibits subtle peices of brilliance at some places, but the text needs to get more consistent.

U kicked off with a brilliant start to the thing, but probably weren't able to carry that flamboyance through out the text.

I'll deinitely wait for your next article!!Good going dude!

Hello Amey,
I must acknowledge ur writing skills.its getting better day by day........keep it up man!!
This surely is the story written by a person who has read, adopted and inacted 'Five piont some one'

Things I liked:-
1)The liveliness in the story,u must have conveyed wat had really happend
2)Imotions(fellings)that you expressed were natural

Suggestions:-
1)U could have included the conversation among us
2)The heading u chose
"I want to Become an IAS................",but this story is more abt "Varun's B'day" than IAS
3)Add more to the story(completeness in lacking)

hello jaan ,gaurav here...
i read "i want t b ias"
bhai it would be certainly shocking and arrow like to u ,,,,
as i started the story was boring...
infact the bottom material was good ,but starting was boring,so it cracked the enjoyment of end.
boring in terms of the start up ...
the description of birthday was quite personal which every one would not like".it should be quite global so that every budy can enjoy it.
